Cheesy Whole Wheat Vegetable Calzones
Calzone dough ingredients:
1 cup warm water
2 Tbs oil
1 Tbs sugar
1 tsp salt
2 3/4-3 cups whole wheat flour
1 Tbs yeast
Filling ingredients:
4oz softened cream cheese
2 tsp dried onions
1/3 cup spaghetti sauce
1/3 cup italian dressing
1 large head of broccoli (cut into florets)
1 large carrot, finely shredded
1 small green pepper, chopped
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
8 oz (2cups) shredded cheddar cheese
8 oz (2cups) shredded cheddar cheese
Directions:
Prepare dough by putting the ingredients in a bread machine, kitchenaid, or use normal bread-making procedure.
Place broccoli florets into saucepan with minimal water. Cover, bring to a boil and cook for 2-3 minutes, until broccoli is starting to get tender and change color. Mix with all other filling ingredients.
On a lightly floured surface divide bread dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each out into a 7ish" circle. Place 1/6 (about 3/4 cup) of filling on half and spread it to within 1" of the edge. Fold over and seal edges to make a half-circle. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 375 for 25-30 minutes. Keep an eye on it and cover loosely with foil if bread browns too quickly (I didn't have this problem). When they are done, brush tops with butter and sprinkle lightly with garlic.
