Zucchini Strings- 10 stars

The kids kept walking in while I was making these last night, and wanting to try them. And wanting to "try" more. And MORE. Jeremiah had a strip and said that he was going out to the garden to look for more zucchini. When I asked him if he thought we need it, I got a major "you are kidding, right?" look. A second baby zucchini was promptly procured. We each could have eaten the whole mound.
These pass the Kenton Test. That right there says it all.

(at least) 1 small zucchini
oil for frying
salt

Cut zucch. into skinny spaghetti strips. Heat an inch or two or three of oil to 350 degrees. Drop in a handful of strips. Fry until golden, drain on paper towels, salt.

Pioneer Woman does it again! Go to her website to see step by step photos.

Zucchini strings sound just plain weird. Do you like zucchini? Just curious because we're not fond of it, and I just thought that if y'all didn't like it, maybe we'd try it too then :). haha. Is it kind of like hash browns???

NO I DON'T LIKE zucchini!!! What kind of a person do you think I am? Zucchini is grown strictly for zucchini bread... until now. Now it could be hard to reserve enough for bread. I don't think we even wasted garden space on them before.
The boys kept saying the strings tasted like fries. Really, the zucchini doesn't have much flavor, so it's more of a "fried and salty" taste, than a "big, gross, green veggie" taste. Dipping these in ranch or something was a suggestion, but everyone liked them plain so much that, why bother?

Do you have a julienne (or however that's spelled!) thingy or do you use a grater or knife????

Well, Mom decided to force these things down our throat for supper tonight. They weren't too bad, but they do still have a distinct zucchini flavor to them. Maybe she didn't cook them long enough?? =)

Abby,
I used a knife to cut one, and the other I used a cheese knife/slicer on. It didn't particularly help. If you have a "julienner", by all means use it, otherwise, as Anna would say use "a big fat knife". (Remember that, Anna?)
Anna,
Zucchini flavor huh? (Yuck) Were they crispy? Mine were all crispy, but I think that if they were at all limp (eewww) that they probably would taste zucchish. Maybe mine were good because I was recycling oil that I used for french fries? The kids DID insist that that was what they tasted like.
OK, recipe change:
1. Make a large batch of homemade fries.
2. Invite us over.
3. Serve.
4. Now make zucchini string according to original recipe. MMMmmmmmm!!!

PS Maybe we're weird? nah...
